Vendakkai kara kuzhambu

 

Ingredients

    Vendakkai – ¼ kilo [cut in to 1 inch]
    Onion – 1 big [sliced]
    Red chilli -1
    Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
    Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp
    Bengal gram– ½ tbsp
    Urad dal– ½ tbsp
    Curry leaves – 1 spring
    Red chilli powder – ½ tbsp
    Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
    Salt to taste
    Oil – 3 tbsp
    Water As needed

Ingredients for roasting and grinding

    Sambar onion – 6 to 7
    Red chilli- 2
    Tamarind – 1 inch
    Tomato – 2
    Coconut – 2 tbsp [grated]
    Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp
    Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
    Fennel seeds – ½ tbsp
    Bengal gram– 1 tbsp
    Urad dal– 1 tbsp
    Garlic – 1 clove
    * Heat pan with oil roast all ingredients then grind to fine paste

Method

    In a thick pan fry Okra for 10 min (with pinch of salt) in a low flame and keep aside.
    Heat pan with oil then add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, Bengal gram and urad dal.
    Add onion & sauté well then add red chilli, curry leaves.
    Add cooked okra then add red chilli powder, turmeric powder mix well.
    Add ground paste, add water mix well. Cover it and cook. Once raw smell out and boiled. Turn off heat.
    Garnish with coriander leaves serve hot with rice, idly, dosa.
